Beautiful as always... The art is obviously great but I really enjoy your lettering also!
Thank you! I’ve been working on making it more legible and eye pleasing.
I missed you! 🎉 now I'm reboosted to draw!
Yes! Good being back, and great hearing that!
I love you art and storytelling, love the sci fi fantasy blend. So fine.
мне очень близка ваша техника, часто смотрю и учусь. так что не удивляйтесь вопросам по рисованию. удачи
inspiring
Thank you. That’s pretty much the best compliment I can get.
великолепно !
Спасибо
Do you scan these watercolor comic panels? If so do you adjust the contrast and saturation? I would love to see a tutorial video of that!
I used to bump up the black levels after I scanned and turned into cmyk but I stopped doing that and pretty much the only thing I mess with in photoshop is the lettering.
@@FarelDalrymple I see. Thanks
очень круто !
Thanks!
Awesome!!! Wow, that's weird. I'm actually reading Sunny right now. On vol. 5. Great process video: )
Sunny is so good! I’m loving the new series too. Or at least the first volume of TOKYO THESE DAYS which is the only one I’ve seen so far.
@@FarelDalrymple I need to check that out! I'd only read B&W/Tekkonkinkreet way back in the day, and No. 5 more recently. I need to get the Cats in the Louvre one (because cats) and Ping-Pong as well (I'm not big on sports manga, but I've heard it's super great, so).
well fuk , this is great .
Thank you.
This looks amazing!!!
Thank you!
Masterclass each time, thank you
Thanks for saying so.
what a beautiful double page spread
Thanks so much, jason!
These videos are always great. Thank you for sharing. I use Payne's grey as well. It is an interesting color and adds a lot to my drawings. Can't wait for Robot Tod. Keep it up.
Thanks for saying so and thanks for watching, Dee!
Does sept and ember still have a physical option if so where could I find it? I already plan to see if robot tod is available in my local comic shop. Love the work great inspiration for my own comic work.
Thanks, Gary! That is very cool of you to say. Sept ‘n’ Ember will be in cool comics shops may 22nd! If you lcs doesn’t have copies you should be able to get the through FLOATING WORLD COMICS thereafter until supplies last. ROBOT TOD the series still does not have any physical issues out yet!😬I am planning to release them later this year. Right now the only way to read them is on my patreon.
@@FarelDalrymple understood the patreon will definitely be a must on my end to stay up to date. Love your videos. Definitely going to mark the date for Sept n' ember. Thanks a lot
good story boarding, good inking, good coloring, and excellent artwork 👍👍👍
Thank you.
@@FarelDalrymple you welcome 🙏
I really like the page 1 bottom left panel with the "CRACK" that looks super cool.
Thanks!
hi. looks great!
Thanks, mom.
I'm a person trying to figure what can be good for my background color bucket i think you help me solve the issue
You are a inspiration, I´m just starting with watercolor and I´m learning fast, in near future I´ll use with gouache too.
Thank you. Good luck with the gouache!
brilliant work bro!
Thank you!

Thank you
Looks amazing! What scanner do you have?
Thank you. Epson EF-7510 epson.com/For-Work/Printers/Inkjet/Epson-WorkForce-WF-7510-All-in-One-Printer/p/C11CA96201
Très très beau, une de vos meilleures pages!
Amazing! The little car is such a fun design. Reminds of Akira Toriyama with the tiny wheels and stuff. Since you ink on top of your pencil drawing, do you erase some of it in-between?
Thanks. Totally Toriyama inspired! Yeah, I erased mostly off camera this time. Sometimes I show my erasing, but a lot of times before each session I sit there and stare at the page then start working a while before I set up my phone.
@@FarelDalrympleThank you very much for the kind reply.
great cover!:)
Thank you!
Nice! Colouring without undo is a terrifying but liberating experience.
Thanks. Liberating is a good word. Starting from scratch with photoshop can feel more daunting to me than the warm comfort of my trusty brush and paper.
the amount of detail at that scale is outstanding!
hey, buddy. Thanks, you are the coolest! i've been meaning to call you and say "hello". had a crazy week or so. miss you
@@FarelDalrymple Yes! I want they!
your videos are awesome. I'm a beginner at watercolor and gouache so this is all very helpful. thank you.
Thank you and best of luck on using the media to create good work
so good, in terms of colour usage in comics using gouache and water colour do you just use the colours straight out of the pot or do you mix them and keep swatch notes
I don’t keep swatch notes. It’s way more free form. I mix colors on the palate and on the paper while I’m painting but I just eyeball it mostly.
@@FarelDalrymple oh cool
i really love your the wrenchies book the are work was beautiful
Thank you. Im working on putting together a ten year anniversary edition.
@@FarelDalrymple that’s awesome
Great to see someone works the way I do: writng, drawing, lettering and colouring...with REAL pencils, REAL coloured inks and all on a piece of REAL paper!!
Heck yeah, it’s a rare thing these days.
Thank you for the part in real time, we can see the real pencil speed, and the precision needed. I habe a question : how can you watercolor after having used the "bleed proof white", doesn't it let a granular thickness ? 😊
Yeah, thanks for the suggestion to do more real time segments. As far as the use of bleed proof white goes, it’s a little tricky. I mention it in the video but probably not clear enough😅, that regular watercolor over bleed proof white doesn’t really work, it just beads up or picks up the opaque paint, but GOUACHE, which is also water based is opaque and a similar medium to the bleed proof white is what I use to go over it. It’s not a perfect system but I like that that I can mix it with watercolor and also use it to dull out some ink lines and stray pencil lines. James gurney has a bunch of videos on his channel about mixing watercolors and gouache that explain it much better than I can. I also do a little bit of photoshop correction/clean-up with the stamp tool to get it all print ready to my satisfaction. Cheers.
@@FarelDalrymple thank you for your answer; no, I don't understand everything you say in the videos because I can't speak english well enough, but there, I understood what you wrote : gouache in the answer. Thank you very much! Same thing for the name James ..., I wasn't able to write and find "gurney". :)
oh yeah, i didn't think of that. @JamesGurney@@Saperlipopette777
Your process videos are invaluable to me. Thank you very much! By the way, here in Europe, 11" x 17" would be similar in size to A3. Judging from you video, it looks like your currently at an A4 size (per page), which is similar to US letter size, if I'm not mistaken.
Thank you for the good word! And big time thanks for catching that 😬 mistake. I have been ignorantly saying that incorrectly for years, and I appreciate the heads up. I’ll have to mention it in the next video.
I have been working on my own graphic novel for the past few. Years your work makes me a little bit jealous. Just kidding, I actually find it pretty encouraging. I'm curious to know what's your preferred way to publish a Graphic novel.
Thank you. I know you said you were joking, but it struck a cord with me. It got me thinking that sometimes I look at the way someone else does something and think that I am doing everything wrong and wish I could make my art look slicker, more professional, or do it faster or “better”. I have to remind myself to try to glean what I can from other and still enjoy my own process. As far as publishing goes I’m in a weird spot right now. When I started first publishing in 1999 I met an editor at DARK HORSE comics that put out my first real “book” POP GUN WAR. Ever since then I have jumped around to different publishers, never made much of any money but tried to retain full creative control. A few years ago I brought all my books over to IMAGE comics and was pretty stoked to be working with a publisher founded by artists! Just last year IMAGE AND FIRST SECOND (publisher of THE WRENCHIES) dropped my books from their catalogs due to what I suppose is lack of sales and to make room in their warehouses. 😢. It’s been a little humbling but I’ve done a little bit of crowd sourcing for some smaller books and it seems like that is the way to go for me from now on. I’m working with a local comic book store/publisher FLOATING WORLD COMICS to help publish and distro my books and using crowdfundr (they are sort of similar to Kickstarter) to fund the printing costs. This year I want to start doing nice hardcover library editions of my catalog through crowdfundr.
I think you're right, Having the skill to create your own world characters and story is the real satisfaction. I like your illustrating. It's not only. Is a great story with likable characters. It's real art as well. I've been sketching my whole life. I learned how to paint a little with the Acrylic. When I was younger, I'm still pretty new to water colors. But in my opinion, there's no better way. To illustrate a graphic Novel. I like watching your videos. It's hard to find Stuff.. like this on UA-cam.
Looks awesome! Great video!
Thanks, Vincent.
im a award winning childrens book author who painted his illustrations digitally. but now after years of eyestrain, the rise of ai and digitalization, i find myself yearning to go analogue. this was so helpful.
thanks so much for saying that. i am glad for any sort of inspiration my work provides.
